SGC Step Grate Combustion

Also known as a reciprocating grate. It is the fundamental component of biomass and waste boilers.

Designed to master complex fuels (high moisture and ash content), our system guarantees more than 8,200 hours of continuous operation per year.

It is a robust combustion chamber, the result of extensive experience, with walls covered by a combination of multiple refractory and insulating layers to favor the combustion process and prevent heat loss. The grate is mechanical, hydraulically driven with a reciprocating motion. To withstand extreme conditions, it is manufactured from special high-alloy chrome casting (Cr 27 Ni 4).

Operation

Grate combustion with total process control

The fuel is metered and advanced over the grate by means of a continuous reciprocating motion. The process is divided into three working zones (drying/pre-combustion, combustion, and extinction/slag outlet). Primary air is injected from below the grate (cooling and combustion air), and secondary air is introduced from above to complete the oxidation of volatiles. Ash and slag are extracted dry and continuously by a system of scrapers with inclined blades and reciprocating motion, hydraulically driven.
