Case study of Essex County Council

Construction of Tovi Eco Park to manage residual waste from Essex County and Southend

Fábrica de Essex

MBT macro-project for total residual waste management

Bianna x Essex County Council

Project details for Essex County Council

Tovi Eco Park was conceived as a large-scale Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) project to manage all residual waste generated in Essex County and Southend. Bianna acted as the key technology provider, undertaking the design, supply, and turnkey installation of the immense mechanical pre-treatment line.

The facility was designed to process mixed household waste (“black bag waste”), automating the separation of recyclable materials and biostabilizing the organic fraction to produce alternative fuel, thus avoiding the landfilling of hundreds of thousands of tons annually.

  • Waste Type Urban Solid Waste (USW) Recovery – Residual fraction
  • Fuel Type Massive production of high-quality Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) and Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF), generated from dry rejects and biostabilized material.
  • Recovery Recyclable materials

Types of recovered fractions

  • Ferrous metals
  • Non-ferrous metals (aluminum)
  • Rigid plastics (PET, HDPE)
  • Film
  • Paper / cardboard
  • Glass
