Pioneering landfill mining project in Catalonia
Bianna x Solsonès Regional Council
Project details for Solsonès Regional Council
The Clariana de Cardener Waste Treatment Center (CTR) is a pioneering and innovative project in Catalonia. It was established with an investment of approximately 2 million euros, aiming to implement a “Landfill mining” model and minimize the impact of the existing controlled landfill. The plant stands out for its robustness and technological simplicity, having been designed to treat the residual and organic fractions separately. Bianna supplied the MSW pretreatment plant and installed 14 composting trenches using its semi-permeable membrane cover technology (Bianna Covertech).
- Type of recovered fractions: Ferrous metals, biostabilized material (for landfill cover), high-quality compost (from the organic fraction and plant matter), baled refuse.
- Waste typology (MBT): Municipal Solid Waste (MSW), Organic Fraction (FORM), plant waste, residual fraction of domestic origin, and sludge from Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP).
- Valorization: Organic biostabilization
